Career Profile

Dr Christiana Uchenna Ezeanya is a distinguished academic, researcher, and technology professional who currently serves as the Head of the Department of Information Systems and Technology at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), a position she has held since May 2026. Her career trajectory reflects remarkable professional growth. She joined NOUN in 2013 as Network Administrator I and rose through the ranks to Chief Network Administrator in 2023, after which she transitioned into academia as a Lecturer II in the same year. Her teaching portfolio encompasses a wide range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Networking and Communication Technology, Internet Concepts and Web Design, Computer Laboratory, and Computer Networks, while she has also taught IT essentials, computer networks, and application software across multiple institutions. Dr Ezeanya’s research interests lie at the intersection of Information Systems with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, focusing on enhancing learners’ support systems in open and distance education environments, predictive modelling for student retention and academic performance. Her prolific research output includes over twenty-two journal articles published in reputable international and local journals, covering topics such as machine learning-based student support systems, personalized risk reduction using AI, deep learning for predicting attrition rates in ODL institutions, enhanced student engagement through AI-driven tools, automated reasoning systems for mathematical theorems, and big data analytics in healthcare, alongside book chapters, conference papers, and completed research projects on expert systems, examination malpractice, and database management. Dr Ezeanya has demonstrated exceptional capacity for research funding acquisition, serving as Co-Researcher on six major grants, including the TETfund National Research Fund (2025) for a multilingual support system bridging language barriers in Nigerian distance learning, British Council Transnational Education grants for international collaborations with the University of Hertfordshire and Cardiff Metropolitan University, multiple Senate Grants of NOUN for intelligent learning systems and privacy-preserving models, and a TEDFUND Institution-Based Research Fund for chatbot development in student support systems. She is a member of both the Nigeria Computer Society and Computer Professionals of Nigeria and has attended numerous conferences and workshops, including the Nigeria Computer Society research workshops, Computer Professional Annual Conferences, Ethical Hacking and Incident Handling workshops, and NOUN RETRIDOL workshops on course material development.
