Career Profile

“Dr. Francis Bukie Osang is a Reader in the Department of Information Systems & Technology at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). He specializes in Information Systems/security and holds a Ph.D. in the field (2016). His academic background includes an MSc in Information Technology and a BSc in Computer Science. He is a fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and a member of the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) CPN.
At NOUN, he has played a significant role in advancing e-learning and electronic examination systems, streamlining processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors in educational assessments. Dr Osang has held several positions such as Head, of the Department of Computer Science – 2020 till date, Deputy Dean, of the Faculty of Computing – 2024 to date, Ag. Director ICT November 2024 to date. As HOD, he successfully got full accreditation for B.Sc Computer Science, and B.Sc Information Technology, kick started the Ph.D Information Technology programme and transformed the Department into a full-fledged Faculty of Computing.
With over 80 scholarly publications, his research focuses on information systems/security, e-learning systems, cybersecurity, mobile computing and human-computer interaction. Dr. Osang is known for fostering a collaborative environment within the department, mentoring faculty and students, and encouraging innovative research. His commitment to excellence and his contributions to ICT education have positioned the department and the university as a leader in technology-driven academic programmes within Nigeria’s open and distance learning landscape.”
